The Magnitsky Act: Horror For Human Rights Violator

Dear KaPAB,

“The Magnitsky Act was enacted by the Obama Administration, authorizing the U.S. Government to sanction human rights offenders. It is named after Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky.  Magnitsky uncovered tax fraud perpetrated on a vast-scale, implicating Russian officials. In 2008 he was imprisoned in Russia and later died in jail as a result of the mistreatment suffered there.”

“What does the Global Magnitsky Act do?

The Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act authorizes the president to block or revoke the visas of certain “foreign persons” (both individuals and entities) or to impose property sanctions on them. People can be sanctioned (a) if they are responsible for or acted as an agent for someone responsible for “extrajudicial killings, torture, or other gross violations of internationally recognized human rights,” or (b) if they are government officials or senior associates of government officials complicit in “acts of significant corruption.”

So there is a possibility na pati mga relatives madamay.

This is just the initial list.

Yung tourism industry natin. US would rather go to Thailand and Malaysia. The best and the brightest talaga si Duterte. Parang bata kung umasta.

According to the Department of Tourism, there were more than 1M American tourists who visited the Philippines last 2018. Lets just say each tourist, spends a minimum of US$1,000 each here in the Philippines. Thats US$ 1B to our economy every year. This amount provides thousands of jobs to Filipinos in the hotel, restaurant and hospitality industry.

PAB
